The Bluebird Toddler Community
This program is truly a community. For many children, this is their first experience spending extended daily time away from their family members. We aim to be a soft entry into life outside of home, in a safe and nurturing environment where they can blossom. In your child’s time at Bluebird, they will gain a deeper understanding of themselves, each other, and the world around them.
Our toddler community is based on the belief that each child’s development is most enriched when their physical, emotional, social, and sensory needs are met. Bluebird has created an environment that is specifically prepared to meet those needs. The program is facilitated by AMS credentialed Montessori educators who have an ever-deepening understanding of child development. We aim to provide a level of care that exceeds that of a typical daycare center. Our small scale offers the opportunity for children to form tighter-knit relationships with their peers and adults.
Self-direction is a key component of learning that happens within this program. The materials are displayed in an inviting, calm space where children are free to explore, play, and learn. The consistent structure allows children to feel settled and regulated as they select activities, investigate, problem-solve, concentrate, and make discoveries on their own, rather than at the direction of an adult. The teachers observe each child’s interactions with the materials and the other children to tailor the space to spark interest and engagement.
Children are able to choose to work and play independently, with a partner or in a small group. They are given the freedom to express themselves without being shamed or punished, but rather guided into opportunities where they can learn appropriate behaviors. The teachers in the program also play an essential role in modeling and supporting healthy, age-appropriate communication between children and adults.
